I've been sitting at my desk bawling for the last hour.
Dad doesn't seem any worse than usual, but it's hard to tell how much better he's getting. He doesn't say much. (You know how dads are...)
And mom is still making idiotic comments about the visiting therapists continuing to make appointments and how it's only "pounding it into his head that he's an invalid." Oh shut up already. He IS an invalid.
Anyway, the question is...should I get out in the 36 degree weather and walk to lunch and get a little head-clearing exercise? Or should I indulge my doldrums and go get a barbecue-bacon-cheese-greasebomb from Smashburger?

]]>There's a guy on the local newspaper discussion forum who has been a bigger wanker than usual lately. This is the guy I've mentioned before who thinks it's his right to confront people who have handicapped parking placards that he doesn't think they deserve.
Well, this time there was a house fire, and a disabled man (one leg and wheelchair bound) lost his life. This assclown has posted several times about how it was inexcusable that he died, that it wouldn't have happened if they had working smoke alarms in every room, and he should have been able to pull himself to safety with his arms, and they should have done this or that or the other thing.
Every time any tragedy happens, he's there with an arrogant declaration of how HE wouldn't have been in that situation because HE would have done such and such different and what the hell ever.
So this is the reply I just drafted to him, but I don't have the nerve to click "Submit":

They cause too many problems.
Some clients' email systems convert everything to a non-proportional font, so a link that's too long for a line wraps to the next line and, therefore, doesn't work.
Some clients' IT departments block external websites, so again the links don't work.
Some people have spam filters for crap like this, so they don't get the emails in the first place.

]]>Siege of Mirkwood, the latest expansion for Lord of the Rings Online launches today!
I dreamed about it last night, for crying out loud.
I don't know why I'm so hyped for it. None of my characters are advanced enough to play any of the new areas the expansion adds. I've barely reached Moria with my biggest character, and that was last year's expansion.
But there are several features that I will be able to use right away, and I'm looking forward to those. For one thing, it'll much easier to share items among my alt-characters, without having to spend coin to mail them, or storing them at my personal house and sending everyone hiking out there to get stuff. It'll also be nice to be able to do some things without having to dismount/remount my horse all the time.
Anyway, I left my login client running this morning to download automatically as soon as the servers came online, and I just checked the forums to see other folks saying that they've started being able to download. So maybe by the time I get home tonight I'll be all ready to plunge in!
(Of course, all the other geeks will be doing the same thing and there will be so much lag that no one will be able to do anything anyway. But such is the life of a gamer, I guess. LOL!)

No doubt, mother is still in full-blown freakout mode. She's been in a tail-winding spin since dad signed his release papers on Monday.
My poor sister is staying with them for a few days, since she's not working at the moment and can be with dad all day. But I know mother is going to drive her stark, raving bonkers. She was totally stressed last night, and that's just from spending half a day with mother. Living at their house again? Lord...
But she needs to be there, to fend mother off. Mom is obsessed with dad not being an invalid (and not being old, even though his 82 birthday is less than two weeks ago). She keeps cornering us to whisper that "we need to help daddy keep his spirits up."
Well daddy wouldn't need his spirits kept up if mother would chill out and quit harping about everything.
And he'll recover a lot faster if she'll STFU and let him use the walker and toilet booster and oxygen tank in peace until he's feeling better.
